Interdisciplinary inquiry-Based Curriculum
My curriculum is designed to spark curiosity, joy, and deep thinking while building skills and knowledge in all subject areas. I combine backward planning, inquiry-based design, and project-based learning to create curriculum and performance-based assessments that meet standards across grade levels and subject areas. Beginning with an essential question, students use critical thinking, innovation, exploration, and creativity to learn about and understand the world around them. Visits to off-campus sites are regularly embedded into lessons, providing students with immersive, hands-on learning experiences. This student-centered curriculum addresses real-world issues, builds students’ confidence, and grows their capacity to be leaders.
Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion
Diversity, equity, and inclusion are of key importance in the community and guide all of the curriculum that I create. I am dedicated to anti-racist curriculum, incorporating voices from many different cultures. I believe that a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment is important to the growth of young people. Only through this environment can we create empathetic leaders of the future.
Social Emotional Learning
Social-emotional learning happens throughout the day every day. It is present during morning advisory sessions, academic classes, and social time. My approach to SEL focuses on the personal growth of each individual student. We celebrate individuality, embrace multiple points of view, and strive for empathy and integrity. The goal is for each person to put themselves in another person’s shoes and cultivate a sense of belonging. Adults serve as advisors to students, providing safe spaces to share thoughts and feelings.
The relationship between adults and students is important for cultivating empathy. I treat my students with compassion and respect, and I truly listen to what they say. Students mirror this behavior, and open communication and empathy are strengthened as a result. When students feel seen and valued, they are able to learn and thrive in their environment, leading the way toward a bright and fulfilling future.
